Stop! Think for a moment.

Christian Grüny is associate philosopher and guest curator of the Music Festival Bern 2018. He teaches at the University of Witten/Herdecke, where his main focuses are aesthetics, music philosophy, phenomenology and cultural philosophy. Christian Grüny continues to work on different discursive formats that accompany the festival programme.

The need for discussion remains: If a festival continues to showcase as much different music as here in Bern, and if you have a composer in residence who passed away decades ago, there is a lot to say. And if it is as untimely as this time, there is nothing one can do, but adapt the accompanying programme.

What is music’s time? What does it have to do with our time? What happens when time pressure gets too great? What does it have to do with repetition itself? What did Bernd Alois Zimmermann do with time? As part of the ultra short lectures, concert introductions, lecture with discussion, discursive «intermezzovention» and an expert discussion about the accompanying programme «Stop! Think for a moment», the audience will have the opportunity to learn more about the background of the pieces, to discuss them and to talk about their own experiences. But be punctual!
