A young and ambitious ensemble breaks the norms: of the concert, of genres and classical conventions in general. Pioneers of Bern’s Avantgarde accompany the ensemble. Like an unknown music object, the project “Out of Space” touches down in a Bernese neighbourhood and makes musical meteorites appear.
The Ensemble Polygon opens its workshop in the Lorraine for a 48-hour concert. The piece is called “Out of Space” and the ambition is astronomic: a two-day long sound continuum, a festival in a festival, a kaleidoscope peppered with guest appearances and mediation projects. Music students, vocational and elementary students showcase their programme-related work, graphic scores are musically interpreted. The Ensemble Polygon discuss birdsong in music with children in a workshop concert and unwieldy music is presented in an unusually relaxed way.
“Out of Space” also connects generations: Polygon invites the established composers from L’art pour l’Aar to an eclectic guest performance. For instance, there is the concert “At the Very Edge (of the Table),” which the guests organised with the percussion art ensemble and the poet Erwin Messmer. On the other hand, there are repertoire pieces, which Polygon scatters across the programme and also discussions between young and old in the audience, bringing the musicians and audience into a dialogue.
