The Musikfestival Bern 2022 will take place from 7th to 11th September and its programme is ascribed to the "unvermittelt" (Ger., sudden, abrupt).
The programme is currently being developed, with a wide range of musical styles from early to contemporary, from improvised and experimental to electronic music. You can look forward to innovative presentation formats including concerts, educational offerings, musical experiments and many more surprises!
The unexpected has the ability to joyfully surprise and brutally startle us. We attempt to incorporate it cleverly into everyday life or avoid it altogether, however sometimes it just hits us with full force. Nothing is more unexpected or abrupt than humankind. Perhaps that’s why imparting knowledge in the realm of art and in particular contemporary music is in such high demand. As many ideas as possible should be conveyed to as many people as possible: thresholds removed, bridges of understanding built, new paths sought. As important as this is for newcomers to the field, it can also rob something essential of the music: its immediacy. The salutary terror of certain pieces, their uncomfortable intricacy, their slow infinity, and even their overwhelming beauty: ultimately these aspects of the work cannot be conveyed in the form of information but only heard, seen and experienced directly. In this way, music becomes the mediator on a journey towards the incomprehensible.
